Mezi Biometric Data Notice
Last updated: July 20, 2026
This Biometric Data Notice explains how Mezi Inc. (“Mezi,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, stores, and deletes facial-geometry data when you complete selfie verification. It supplements our Privacy Policy. If anything here conflicts with the Privacy Policy, this Notice controls for biometric data.
1. What we collect
When you complete selfie verification, you take a short video or photo selfie. Our verification provider analyzes it to (a) confirm that a real, live person is present (a “liveness check”), and (b) create a mathematical representation of your facial geometry — a “face template,” which is a unique number, not a photograph — to check that the person in your selfie matches your profile photos and to estimate that you are 18 or older. The face template is “biometric information” under some laws.
2. Why we collect it
We use your facial-geometry data only to:
-
Confirm you are a real, live person (anti-fraud, anti-bot);
-
Check that your selfie matches your profile photos; and
-
Estimate your age to enforce our 18-and-older requirement.
We do not use your biometric information for advertising, and we do not use it to identify you to other users or for any purpose other than verification.
3. Your consent
We collect and process your facial-geometry data only with your consent, which you give on the verification screen before verification begins (see the in-app consent text at the end of this Notice). You don’t have to verify to browse Mezi, but verification is required before you can enter the matching pool.
4. How long we keep it (retention)
We keep your face template only as long as needed to complete verification, and then delete it — within 24 hours of completing the check. We do not keep your verification selfie video or add it to your profile. After verification, we retain only: (a) whether you passed, (b) your estimated age or age range, and (c) a small number of audit images from your selfie, which we keep for the life of your account and delete within 30 days after you delete your account, except where the law requires us to keep them longer.
This schedule is designed to meet the strictest standards that apply. Illinois’s BIPA requires destruction when the purpose for collection has been satisfied, or within three years of your last interaction with us, whichever comes first. Texas’s CUBI requires destruction within a reasonable time and no later than one year after the collection purpose expires. Because we destroy your face template within 24 hours of completing verification — as soon as its purpose is satisfied — our practice sits well inside both limits.
This Notice is published and publicly available, and it is in effect before any biometric data is collected, as Illinois law requires.
5. Destruction
When we delete your biometric information, it is permanently purged from our systems and our provider’s systems and can no longer be retrieved.
6. Who we share it with
We share your selfie and face template only with our verification provider, which processes them on our behalf as our service provider and stores them securely. The provider may use this information only to perform verification for us. We do not sell or share your biometric information, and we do not disclose it to any other third party except as required by law.
7. Withdrawing consent and deleting your data
Because we delete your face template within 24 hours of completing verification, in most cases your biometric information is already gone shortly after you verify. You can withdraw your consent and delete any remaining verification data (such as audit images) by deleting your Mezi account in Settings; we then delete that data as described in Section 4.
8. Optional ID verification
If you choose optional ID verification, we (and our provider) process the government ID you submit to confirm your identity. This is separate from facial-geometry data and is handled as described in our Privacy Policy.
