Mezi Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 20, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Mezi Inc. (“Mezi,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Mezi app, our website at mezisocial.com, and related services (the “Service”). We’re a Delaware corporation based in Los Angeles, California. By using Mezi, you agree to this Policy. You must be 18 or older to use Mezi.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
-
Account info: name/display name, email address, and possibly phone number.
-
Date of birth / age: to confirm you’re 18 or older.
-
Selfie images and face data: for verification that you’re a real person who meets the age requirement. This involves face-geometry data, which can be considered biometric information under some laws. See our Biometric Data Notice for the full details, including how long we keep it and when we delete it.
-
ID documents: only if you choose optional ID verification.
-
Profile content: photos, bio, taste graph (venues, artists, teams, festivals), event history, prompts, friend tags, Duos, and other scrapbook elements you add.
-
Vibes: the posts you create and share.
-
Messages: what you send to matches, friends, and connections.
-
Contacts (optional): if you choose to, you can let Mezi access your phone’s contacts to find friends who are already here and invite others. This is never required to use Mezi. We use your contacts only to help you find and invite people; we don’t message anyone without your action, we don’t sell contact information, and we don’t keep the contact details of people who aren’t Mezi users.
-
Payment info: handled by our payment processor (Stripe) and the app stores. Mezi does not store your full card number.
-
Support and reports: anything you send us at contact@mezisocial.com, and information other people submit in reports involving you.
Information we collect automatically
-
Usage and behavioral data: taps, waves, hearts, matches, events you’re interested in or RSVP to, time spent, and how you interact with the Service and other users.
-
Device and technical data: device identifiers, app version, operating system, configuration, network information, and similar technical information, including app-crash data.
-
Location data: for event proximity and discovery — only with your permission, which you can change in your device settings. If you decline, features that rely on precise location may not be available.
Sensitive information
Depending on what you choose to share (for example, if you indicate sexual orientation on a Dating profile), some information may be considered sensitive or “special category” under applicable law. We use sensitive information only to provide and secure the Service — never to infer characteristics about you, and never for advertising.
Two categories have their own dedicated policies, which form part of this Privacy Policy:
-
Biometric data. The facial-geometry data created during selfie verification is governed by our Biometric Data Notice. It sets out what we collect, the consent we obtain from you before any scan happens, how long we keep it, and when we permanently destroy it.
-
Consumer health data. If you live in Washington or Nevada, our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy explains what information may fall within those laws, how we handle it, and the rights you have.
2. How we use your information
We use information to:
-
Create and manage your account and verify you’re a real person who is 18 or older;
-
Provide matching, event discovery, Vibes, messaging, and other features, and recommend matches and events;
-
Keep Mezi safe — screen and moderate content, detect fraud and fake accounts, investigate reports, and enforce our Community Guidelines and Terms;
-
Process payments and manage memberships;
-
Communicate with you about the Service, including safety and account notices, and (where permitted) marketing you can opt out of;
-
Improve and develop the Service, including through analytics and, where appropriate, machine learning applied to de-identified data; and
-
Comply with the law and protect our rights and the safety of our users.
3. Content screening and moderation
To keep Mezi safe and meet app-store requirements, photos, bios, captions, Vibes, and messages may be scanned by automated moderation tools, and reported content is reviewed by our team. If we detect child sexual abuse material (CSAM), we report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and law enforcement as required by law.
4. How we share your information
With other users
Your profile, Vibes, and the content you choose to share are visible to others according to your settings and Mezi’s features — for example, your visibility at an event is controlled by your per-event privacy toggles. Messages are shared with the people you send them to. Vibes can be forwarded off Mezi (for example, to TikTok or Instagram). If someone submits a report involving you, we may let them know what action we took, and the same applies if you report someone.
With service providers
We share data with vendors that help us run Mezi. They may only use your information to perform services for us, under contract. These include:
-
Payment processor (currently Stripe) — to process payments and manage subscriptions.
-
Identity and age-verification provider — to run selfie verification and optional ID verification.
-
Content-moderation providers — to screen images and text for safety.
-
Cloud hosting and database provider — to store data and operate the app.
-
Analytics provider — if used, to understand how the Service is used.
We identify our selfie-verification provider specifically in our Biometric Data Notice, where the law requires it.
For legal and safety reasons
We may share information when required by law, to respond to legal process, to enforce our Terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Mezi, our users, or the public.
In a business transfer
If Mezi is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell your personal information for money, and we are not part of any larger family of apps that shares your data with affiliated services. Mezi does not currently serve third-party advertising in the app. If we introduce advertising in the future, we will update this Policy and provide any choices the law requires before doing so.
5. Your choices and rights
-
Access and update: view and edit your profile and account info in the app.
-
Delete your account: you can delete your account and associated data in the app. Some information may be retained as described in Section 6.
-
Location: turn location permissions on or off in your device settings.
-
Marketing: opt out of marketing emails via the unsubscribe link or by contacting us.
-
Privacy controls: manage who can see you and how, including per-event visibility toggles, blocking, and muting.
Your privacy rights under state law
U.S. state privacy laws (including in California, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and a growing number of other states) give you rights over your personal information. Rather than list these state by state, Mezi extends the following rights to every user, regardless of the state you live in:
-
Know and access — ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy.
-
Correct — fix inaccurate personal information.
-
Delete — ask us to delete your personal information.
-
Opt out — opt out of targeted advertising, the “sale” of your data, or profiling. Mezi does not sell your data, serve third-party ads, or profile you for these purposes, so there is nothing to opt out of today.
-
No retaliation — we won’t discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
To make a request, email contact@mezisocial.com. We’ll verify your identity before acting, and we may decline requests that are unlawful, unverifiable, or that would infringe someone else’s rights. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying with “Privacy Request Appeal.” We also honor recognized browser opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control (GPC).
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account or specific content, the deletion process begins no more than 30 days after your request and generally completes within 90 days; it may take up to an additional 90 days to remove copies from our backup and disaster-recovery systems. While deletion is underway, the content is no longer visible to other users.
How long we keep each type of information
-
Account information (name, email, phone number) — for the life of your account, then deleted on the timeline above.
-
Profile content (photos, bio, prompts, Vibes, event history) — for the life of your account, then deleted on the timeline above.
-
Messages — for the life of your account. Deleting your account removes your copy; a message you already sent may remain visible to the person who received it.
-
Face template (biometric data) — deleted within 24 hours of completing selfie verification. See our Biometric Data Notice.
-
Verification result and audit images — for the life of your account, then deleted within 30 days after account deletion.
-
Government ID (only if you choose optional ID verification) — deleted within 30 days of completing the check.
-
Location data — kept only as long as needed to show you nearby events, and no longer than 30 days, after which it is deleted or de-identified.
-
Contacts (only if you sync them) — matched to find friends already on Mezi; we don’t retain the details of people who aren’t users, and you can turn off contact access anytime in your device settings.
-
Payment and transaction records — up to 7 years, to meet tax and accounting obligations.
-
Usage and device data — up to 24 months, after which it is deleted or de-identified.
-
Recommendations and inferences (match and event suggestions derived from your profile and activity) — for the life of your account, then deleted with it.
-
Support communications (emails you send us, and reports involving you) — up to 3 years after the matter is closed.
-
Safety and moderation records (reports, enforcement actions, banned accounts) — up to 3 years after account closure, and longer where a serious safety matter or legal claim requires it.
-
CSAM reports — retained and reported as required by law.
We may keep information longer than the periods above where we need it to comply with a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, investigate a safety incident, or enforce our agreements.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security. Help protect your account by keeping your login credentials private and never sharing any verification code with anyone — we’ll never ask you for your password.
8. Children
Mezi is for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that someone under 18 has created an account, we remove them. If you believe a minor is using Mezi, contact us at contact@mezisocial.com.
9. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we’ll notify you (for example, in the app or by email) before they take effect. The “Last updated” date above shows the latest version.
